Good afternoon all,
Youth Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB) Gainsborough has seen an increase in reports of youth-related anti-social behaviour, much of which is centred around a small number of individuals. Unfortunately, there is rarely a quick solution to youth ASB, and both the police and local authority are required to follow a structured and staged approach before more formal interventions can be pursued. In the majority of cases, the issuing of ASB warning letters has the desired effect and the behaviour ceases. However, there are occasions where families show little regard for these interventions and fail to take responsibility for addressing their children's behaviour. Due to the commitment of both my Neighbourhood Policing Team and West Lindsey District Council to tackling youth ASB, we are now exploring the use of Parenting Orders and other formal interventions. These measures can require parents or guardians to engage with the police and local authority and take the necessary steps to reduce anti-social behaviour and improve accountability.
E-Bike and Moped ASB I am fully aware of the concerns being raised, both directly and through social media, regarding the impact that anti-social use of e-bikes and mopeds is having on our communities. Many of the comments made by residents are correct. These vehicles are often required to meet specific legal requirements, including insurance and licensing provisions, and riders can commit a range of road traffic offences for which the police have enforcement powers. However, having the necessary legislative powers does not always mean that immediate enforcement action is possible. Officer availability is one factor, but officers must also carefully assess the risks associated with attempting to stop or pursue riders. Any enforcement activity must take into account the safety of the rider, officers, and other road users. I want to reassure the community that we are actively exploring a range of tactics and partnership approaches to address vehicle-related ASB. Where circumstances allow and resources permit, this remains an area that we will continue to proactively target.
Shop Theft Shop theft remains a national issue. Challenges associated with prison capacity and early release schemes can contribute to increases in this type of offending and present additional challenges for policing and retailers alike. Residents of Market Rasen may be reassured to know that we have not seen any significant increase in reports of shop theft within the town. In fact, the last reported shop theft in Market Rasen was recorded on 3 August 2026, although this may indicate that some offences are going unreported. Unfortunately, Gainsborough has experienced an increase in shop theft offences. The most commonly targeted items include Lego, alcohol, cosmetics, and food products such as meat and cheese. The contribution of West Lindsey District Council CCTV operators continues to be instrumental in tackling shop theft. Their vigilance and the high-quality evidence they provide have played a key role in securing a number of successful prosecutions.

Concern for Welfare Incident – Binbrook On 26 August 2026, officers responded to reports concerning an individual in crisis at the Heritage Centre in Binbrook. Due to the nature of the incident, Lincolnshire Police were supported by Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue Service, and with the assistance of specialist negotiators the incident was safely resolved. Given the duration of the incident and the emergency service resources involved, it is likely that this matter attracted significant public attention within the local area. This incident serves as an important reminder of the breadth of modern policing. Officers regularly attend incidents involving individuals experiencing crisis and are frequently required to provide support, safeguarding, and intervention to protect vulnerable members of our community.
Burglary and Suspicious Activity – Willingham by Stow On 26 August 2026, police received several reports concerning a suspicious male attempting door handles in Willingham by Stow, alongside a report of a burglary in which a handbag was stolen from a residential address. Officers quickly identified the individual involved and, considering the circumstances of the offences, the matter was dealt with through a Community Resolution.
Warrant Executed – North Warren Road, Gainsborough Residents may have noticed a significant police presence on North Warren Road, Gainsborough, on 27 August 2026 as officers executed a further warrant at an address in the area. A male connected to the address is currently in police custody in relation to drugs offences. Further updates will be provided where appropriate and when operationally possible.
Meeting with Sir Edward Leigh On 27 August 2026, I had the opportunity to welcome Sir Edward Leigh to Gainsborough Police Station. During his visit, I took the opportunity to discuss concerns shared by officers regarding the process of obtaining charging advice from the Crown Prosecution Service and how aspects of the process could potentially be streamlined. Improvements in this area could contribute to a more efficient justice system while also reducing administrative burdens on officers, enabling them to spend more time serving their communities. Sir Edward Leigh indicated that he would raise these concerns in Parliament, with a view to ensuring police time is used as effectively as possible. Sir Edward also expressed his support for an exciting project that I am currently developing with partner agencies. This is an initiative that I am particularly passionate about, and I look forward to sharing further details with the community in the coming weeks.
Overall, whilst we continue to face challenges across a range of areas, I remain committed to ensuring that our communities receive a visible, proactive, and effective policing service.
